An overview of observations quasi-periodic oscillations in low mass X-ray binaries
Abstract
In this review of some of the key observational of fast (>=- 1 H z) quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) in low mass X-ray binaries are surveyed. These include the strength, colour and coherence of the QPO, and the shape of the QPO signal. Different QPO modes have been identified based on the range of QPO frequency, the QPO frequency - source intensity relation, the properties of the red noise, and the spectral state of the source. It is shown that the two classifications of QPO which have been proposed largely overlap.
